The Best Conditions

Tweedhill’s real reputation is as a great low water beat. When everywhere else has low water, the Salmon aren’t about. At Tweedhill, low water means fresh Salmon lying in our pools, before they start their journey upstream. And our low water comes in two ways – lower Summer water heights, and the lower water from each receding tide.

As our climate changes, so we are experiencing changes too.

For many years, Tweedhill’s reputation as a low water beat meant that the best fishing was in the Summer months. Now, we start fishing at the beginning of March, and the first Salmon are often caught in March. While the Autumn run has reduced greatly along the River Tweed, Salmon continue to pass through Tweedhill in September and October. We continue fishing until the end of the season, but as the Autumn weather changes, there can occasionally be days when the river at Tweedhill can be too high to fish.
